Prior to Royalty, I’ve been writing Soca for two years now. Well not just me, my brother and I is more accurate. I can come up with lyrics and melodies on my own but I need him. Because I can’t sing and he’s the only one that will hear an excellent melody through a flat note. Plus he has superb melodies, and can sing. And his lyrics are coming along. So we’re a great duo.
Earlier this year we decided to go for Road March. My brother was skeptical but I persisted. I mean, just go hard and done right? With that, I went and absorbed every Road March from 2000 to now. I got a certificate in Machel and then went and did a minor in Destra. Using Destra as a guide to get the sweet mixed with the pace, I was able to build the initial melody and lyrics.
After I got the stamp of approval from Daniel, we were on our way. We brought it to Ballistik Boyz Productions to start the concoction. Following a quick listen, Shac De Burg started the beat with some keys. Some snares soon followed and with a slight Soca Kingdom sprinkled in, it was soon done. Lastly, Kendall mixed it setting up an alley-oop for Precision Productions to master.
So Road March…yeah? We’ll see if that’s possible; look out Iwer…and Machel. Whatever the outcome, I’m grateful it allowed me to pen Royalty, my first power soca ever. And it’s a damn good one at that. But don’t take my word for it. Listen for yourself.
